7 Random Facts

So Amanda tagged me to create a post to list 7 Random Facts about me. Why 7? That is too random AND difficult. I am shooting for 5 and anything after that is just a bonus. Here we go:

1) When I was little, I was a rough and rowdy gal. I used to collect live crickets and stick them in my pocket. (That is if they escaped the burning lens of the magnifying glass). My poor Mom used to find cricket legs and heads in the washer and dryer.
2) I was born in London England. Chelsea to be exact. After a few drinks, I do a mean London accent. Sober, I do......something close.

3) It is quickly becoming a family tradition on holidays to play the After Eight Mint Game. You get an After Eight Mint and put it on your forehead. Lean back. Now you have to get it into your mouth without touching it at all. You can only use gravity and facial expressions to get it down your face. This game is best placed while inebriated. My brother demonstrates wonderfully.

4) I must have carnies in my family tree as I have many strange tricks up my sleeve. I can: tie a cherry stem in a knot with my tongue, put 1, 2 or 3 loops in my tongue, I can wave my tongue, cross one eye, cross my arms after turning them inside out and STILL fit my head through there without letting go of my hands, and I can blow a bubble with gum bigger than anyone I know. And no, I will not show you pictures of of any of it. Carnie, not crazy. I am also left handed to add to my oddities.

5) I, like Amanda, have never (and probably won't ever) get gas before the gas light comes on. Don't lecture me. I am big on structure and schedules and lists, but apparently, filling the tank before necessary is not in my nature.

6) I am proud to admit that I am one of the few people my age that I know that has 3 friends I have known since kindergarten and still speak with. Melissa, Kathryn, and Katie.

7) I actually have a pet raccoon.

ok, no I don't but how many people have pictures of themselves feeding raccoons on the patio? Not a lot I bet.

OK, that is 7. This wasn't as hard as I thought. I actually can think of more random things about me! BUT, unlike Amanda, I will not curse you with having to post about yourself! ;)

Holly Jolly

Here we go. A ton of photos of one person in particular that will probably bore you (unless you were there). Never-the-less, pictures from that crazy holiday where going green would mean not wrapping your presents for others, and that is just crazy talk!

The injured reserve: Zach had a brace on his hand. Boys will be boys....

Alex was actually hanging upside down for this one. He was a happy kid!

Not very keen on the way the tree feels..

I got Dad a new hat

With some new hair..

Isn't my family pretty?! Don't be jealous.

Christmas went by in a flash and Alex was spoiled. I spent most of the night opening presents for him. (There was no shortage) I can't wait to see what the maids figure out to do with all this stuff while they are trying to vacuum!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and we will see you next year!

Merry Christmas Ya'll!

I found out today that Alex and Laura are having a girl! YAAAAY!!!

Merry Christmas!

Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?

So guess who is crawling now? Well, he can crawl. He actually prefers to pull himself forward by his elbows and drag his feet behind him. It is more of an army crawl. Although he can actually crawl, I guess he thinks it is much more dramatic to make it look like he is wounded at war and crawling to his safety under heavy gunfire. Looks like something right out of a movie! It won't be long before I am the most paranoid person in the world with leaving things out on surfaces, etc. This kid already wants to put his hands on anything he is not supposed to.

Let the Holidays begin!

Joe and Teresa came over tonight to have some of my favorite Cheeseburger Soup. We hung out for a little bit afterwards until Allen brought in the tree to put up. Then, Joe whips into action. If there is something to be done, Joe is going to do it right! Once we get the tree out of the box and put together, Joe continuously alternated from sitting on the couch making sure we had our angles right to getting up and making sure we were "fluffing" it properly. This game ensued for at least an hour.
This was Alex's first tree siting. He loved looking at it but hated touching it. Which is fine by me. I hope that trend sticks for the next ten years! That kid can hate trees as much as he wants. Stay away from it Kid!
So that is that. Holiday weekend over. Man do I hate to go back to work on Monday!

Alex's first look at a Christmas Tree!

Thanksgiving in Arkansas

We went to Arkansas to see Allen's extended family for Thanksgiving. As promised, I have pictures of cats and guns! I can't help it. Where else can you drive just a few miles from the house and shoot stuff!? And where else do you walk out the back door and see so many cats just waiting to see you!?

We arrived on Thursday and had Thanksgiving dinner at Bob and Joyce's place. It was crowded but MMMMMM it was good food! Alex also met his cousin Preston for the first time on Thursday. Normally, Alex sees himself in the mirror, so seeing Preston really threw him. I think he could not figure out why this kid looked nothing like the kiddo he normally sees, and why doesn't this kid do everything he does?

We got up and took our time getting ready Friday. We went to lunch with Allen's parents and then headed back to Granny's. Granny does have some cats outside this year, but not as many as before. She did have three kittens that were just adorable and I wanted to take home. Allen would hear nothing of it. Poor kitties, they were so small and it was so cold........ Then we jumped in the truck to go do some target practice. It was cold and raining but, you can't sit around all day! (Notice the RED Arkansas mud on the ground. You want nooooo part of that.

We drove home on Saturday, and here I sit, updating the blog, watching Alex play. Alex is getting very close to crawling. He can go backwards right now. And he rocks back and forth a lot. I am guessing that within 2 weeks, he'll be crawling around.

I leave you with some pictures and video!

Smiley Boy!

Preston

As soon as you get there, the cats jump on your car because it is so warm!

Begging to take kitties home.

Too bad Allen didn't actually catch the lid flying off!

(I would upload the video of Allen's target practice but it is loaded with profanities so, I decided against it!)

This kid is almost always happy!

Company Christmas Party - In NOVEMBER???

Yes, the company warned us that the Christmas party might be a wee bit early this year, but we had no idea it would be so early we might be tempted to dress as pilgrims and indians! I mean how often could you wear a head band with colored feathers and it be appropriate? We did, as a side note, eat turkey and dressing while we were there. Is it bad that I ate three pieces of pumpkin pie too? I think not. I mean, they would have thrown it away if it were left over right? And no sense in that right? So I was just making sure we weren't wasteful. Yah.

It was a casino/Vegas themed party. I am a big fan of the slot machines, but, I almost hate to admit, I have never even played Blackjack before. What better time to learn than with play money!?!?!?

After ALLEN lost ALL my chips, we sat back down at our table with our good friends Alynn and Ryan, and proceeded to (very maturely) snap random and silly photos of each other. Everyone that works with me knows that if nothing else, I always try to be the utmost authority on behaving professionally. ;)

Below are a few shots of the party.

Tomorrow Allen, Alex, and I leave to go to Arkansas to see Al's extended family. Alex will meet his cousin Preston for the first time. They are only 2 months (right Kelly? Two months?) apart. So I am sure I will return with lots of photos from that. And cats. I always manage to take tons of pictures of cats while I am out there as well. A guns. Always photos of guns too.

Inner monologue: You know, we always target practice with beer cans but maybe since there are so many cats around.......

Looking good Big Money

Alynn and I goof off.
A lot.

I love this gal!
I can not believe that Monday is going to be December 1st.

Baby Macnab - a few concerns

Laura was feeling a ton of kicking from Baby Macnab. So much so it was causing her great discomfort. She finally caved in and went to the doc for another scan.

I guess this explains it all........................

I couldn't help it! Sorry if I scared any of you!

Baby Macnab

Here is the most recent "picture"of Baby Macnab. I believe Laura is about 13 or 14 weeks now. We find out if it is a boy or a girl in mid December. Just in time for some Christmas shopping! ;)

With each passing day I come to appreciate more and more the pure genius behind suction cups toys. To whomever invented these gems of plastic entertainment, I thank you. I ordered two off Amazon last week and can not wait for them to arrive. Alex is just beginning to test the limits of gravity with every toy he touches. To him, this is an awfully amusing game.........

We had an eventful weekend. Not busy, but eventful.

We did nothing on Friday night. We were both beat from work, and Allen had a horrible day too.
But Saturday night we were very excited to take my nephew to a haunted house. It was his first Haunted House experience and he walked a fine line between crazy excited and overly nervous. At one point in the car he showed me he was such a combo of these all too often nerve wrecking emotions, that he was smiling and had tears running down his face!

Zach was very anxious but when we got there and the DJ of the house was playing some 80's metal music, he felt right at home. I think he actually got a pretty big kick out of some teenagers next to us playing air guitar. The first haunted house we went to was the main attraction and it took 40 minutes to get through. It was a theme haunted house. They put everyone in rooms and had a different act going in each room. One of the funniest parts was the very beginning. We went in with a group of about 15, and Zach was by far the smallest. So they usher you in a room and cram you all together.......and then it goes pitch black. Zach was holding my hand. The funny part was, it didn't take long for everyone else in the room to figure out the ceiling was coming down on us......everyone except Zach. We were all starting to crouch down in the dark and I had to tell Zach to reach up and jump so he could feel what was happening. Funny that he was probably the most scared person in the room, yet the safest!

The rest of the haunted houses were fun too. Every time we were about to walk into one Zach would say, "I don't know about this one....' and then when we were done he would say, "That was awesome!"

We came home around midnight and Zach barely had his eyes open. He thanked us a jillion times before he and Aunt Stacy went home. That kid is so great and Allen and I just love to be around him.

On Sunday, John Hendricks, his wife Sabrina, and their son Ben came to visit. When my brother and I were growing up, John was his best friend and they spent a good part of most days together. Meaning, I spent a good deal of time with him too (although at that age, we didn't quite see it like that!) It had been quite a while since I had seen John and I was glad he had called. They came over and chatted with Allen and I while Ben played cars on the floor. I made SURE to take a picture of John holding Alex just to pull the heart strings of my brother a little bit. (Subliminal message: come home Alex and Laura. Coooooommmmmeeee hooooooommee.....)

For dinner on Sunday, I had quite a few tamales in the fridge, so I called Joe and Teresa to come help us out. We got rid of all of them. After they left I put my Monster to bed, and here I sit, updating you on our, what might seem mundane to some, but to us, happy lives.

Zach, before we went in, getting very nervous!

It's a Haunted House Fire!

People think that the last Robersaurus Rex was gone thousands of years ago, but they are wrong.

HALLOWEEN!!!!

Halloween was on a Friday night, so honestly, I did not want to be in my house this year so that I after I turned off the front porch light, some stupid teenager would try ringing the door anyway and you would hear a simultaneous ring, bark, cuss, and baby cry. You can call me the Scrooge of Halloween, but......doesn't sound like fun to me. I was all too thrilled when Stacy invited the whole fam damily to her house to hang out and do Halloween.

My father was out of town on yet another motorcycle trip, so we scooped up my Mom and brought her along!

When we got to Stacy's house, the entire neighborhood was buzzing with kids in costumes and parents too. People in her neighborhood go all out. I didn't even think to take the camera when Allen and I stepped out to trick-or-treat with Zach and I should have. People out there are nuts! Houses were decorated from top to bottom with motorized parts and smoke machines. Kids everywhere! And one of the houses near Zach and Stacy's house does a haunted house every year. The line was around the block but Zach wanted to go so Allen, my Mom, and I went with Zach to go wait in line. I am guessing we were in line about 35 minutes, but it was worth the wait.

These people had worked very hard on this haunted house, telling us it takes over a month to set up. It took less than 10 minutes to get through but considering it was just someone's backyard, that is pretty impressive! It was my Momma's first haunted house ever and she enjoyed it. She was scared more times than anyone else in the group! Of course, she had one of Allen's gin and tonics so she was not at her most aware!

We could not stop laughing at Zach, who decided this year he wanted to dress up like a woman. Well, the kid did it right! I leave you with Mr. Zachary Austin.

They come in groups of three.....

So, the joke in my family is that car accidents and tickets come in groups of three. Someone better look out: two down, one to go.

Wednesday I went to my parents house to pick up The Monster after work, and when I pulled down to the end of the driveway, my Daddy-Do was there looking pretty pissed off with himself. In the course of loading his bike onto the trailer, he had managed to scratch his bike up pretty good. One of those, you only have yourself to blame but incredibly irritating just the same, moments.

SO! This morning I go to drop Alex off at my Mom's and.......... I pulled down to the (now cursed) driveway.........I open my door to get out, I open Alex's door to get him out, and I open the trunk to get out his stroller for my Momma to use. Close all the doors (or so I thought), got in the car, and proceeded to back down the driveway. Well, I missed a door, and as I back down the driveway, I ran the passenger side rear door into a crepe myrtle. Poor tree was just sittin' there minding it's own....

I would like to point out that this is the 2nd time in my life I have mangled some poor tree with a motor vehicle. First time was Colorado with a snowmobile when I was 16. BUT! I digress......

So from the second I hear the damage being done until the time I hit the brakes, the tree and my car had a major disagreement about who was going to move, and it looks like the tree won since the tree is still standing and my car door is bent so far back the other way, I can't close it. (If ONE more person calls me Tommy Boy today I swear to God...............)

After a few loud expletives and a moment to breathe, I calmed down enough to take my Mom's car to work. Isn't that brave of her!?

So when I come back from work to pick up the boy after work today, I get to watch the tow truck load up my poor Murano and drive off with it. Props to the husby for making sure they used a flatbed instead of a regular tow. I don't even have to ask him....I know that is his doing.

My handy work.

On another note, I heard it was good to start reading to your children early. So, since I am going for parent of the year, I was looking for the below books. Can't seem to find them in my local bookstores. Anyone know where I could get "Horton Hears a Ho" or any of the other great books shown below?
Happy Halloween all. I bet I don't forget this one.

I know I am tacky! I could not resist.

Thanks for the something to do.

So my brother called me on Monday to let me know that he and Laura are PREGNANT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am going to be a mommy and and Auntie all in a little over a year!

Obviously my family and I are over the moon! Laura is currently 10 weeks pregnant and is due May 22nd (???) I believe.

Took my camera to the reunion, didn't use it once.

Allen and I had our 10 year high school reunion this weekend. Wow...never a dull moment. I did actually have my camera with me but......most of the time, it seemed like a better idea to end the conversation quickly and walk AWAY! There were three groups of people as far as I am concerned:
1) the people you were close to and, for some reason, just lost touch through the years. You are genuinely happy to see these people and catch up.
2) the people you were not close to, but obviously, they were unaware of this fact, and continue to hug and talk and talk and talk.......You are genuinely confused by these people and want to back out of the corner they managed to get in in imeeeeeediately.
3) then there are the people who you look right at while you are intending to walk by because you have no recognition of them at all. In fact, you are assuming this must be the spouse of someone who graduated in your class. Then there is a moment when you realize, that not only do you not recognize them, but they FULLY recognize you and proceed to hug you and call you by name and ask you about things that you didn't think anyone there knew about. You are immediately concerned that your memory is failing, and wonder what it was you did that these people remember you for.

When typing this email, I was worried I might offend some of the people in group 2, but then again, they obviously are unaware what group they are in so......no worries.

My favorite moment of the evening was when Travis Endsley told me that for a good 9 years or so, he truly believe that Allen had written the song "Amazing" by Lone Star for me and then got lucky enough to have it picked up and published. Now, I do have a story about that story (if that makes sense!) so the accusation/compliment really threw me. Besides, they have obviously never spent ANY time with Allen................ ;)

I do know that there is at least one picture of Kathryn, Patrick, Allen and I on her camera, which is funny since I have tons of pictures of us together and they are the one couple I got photos taken with at the reunion! I'll post it as soon as I get my hands on it. It is after all, a good photo for the record books.

In other news, my friends Kristie and James had their baby girl this weekend. She and Kristie are both fine. Just thought I would post the pictures she sent me of her since she looks so lovely!
She was 6 lbs. and 14 oz. and was a pretty tough cookie to her very tough mommy.

Her name is Piper Marie Miksch

Congratulations Kristie and James!

Vegas and "stuff"

So Allen and I just got back from Vegas! We had a great time. The trip was only from Friday through Monday morning but honestly, that is enough time in Vegas. On our first night there, we had tickets to O!, which is one of Cirque Du Soleil's shows. It was pretty amazing. The stage alone must have costs millions to customize. They are pretty serious about cameras not being allowed in there, so I could not take any pictures!

On Sat. night, we met up with my long lost friend, Julia Chien. It is pure coincidence that she found me a month before we were coming out to Vegas where she is a casino host and Ceasar's Palace. It was so good to see her. We went to 'Social House', an amazing sushi place in Treasure Island. Julia, then took us to a club called Prive. It is in the Planet Hollywood Casino and it was awesome. I missed Justin Timberlake by a mere 24 hours. Damnit. With Julia leading the way, we skipped right past the huge line to get in and went to our table. We had table service and....well.....I am not quite sure what he was, but a guy that basically stood there like a body guard for us. No one could get too close to us, and if someone lit a cigarette, he was right there with a lighter. So we had table service and......that. Him. Whatever. He was very nice though.

We stayed out until the wee hours of the morning that night, and Allen drank way too much, so we slept in the next day. On Sunday we had tickets to another show called Zumanity. This is another Cirque show and I highly recommend it. You won't find anything like this in Dallas. It was very crude, and very funny. Lots of naked acrobatics. (And how can you go wrong with that!?!) Again, very sensitive about the cameras in there, so no pics of that either. I didn't do so well taking pictures on our trip!

There was a lion display at our casino, which was the MGM Grand. It had a glass tunnel in it, and when the lions were laying on top of it, I snapped a shot or two. They are so huge and impressive. They could not have cared less if we were there.

To sum up Vegas: fun, smokey, don't stay at the MGM - try somewhere else. Now that I have done it, I'm glad I did, but Shreveport will do.

Julia Chien and I at 'Social House'

One of the lazy lions at the MGM

I stayed home today to hang out with The Monster (because I missed him) and catch up on laundry and things I needed to get done. So, what better to do with Alex than play dress up! I kept the Halloween costume simple this year since I will have to carry him everywhere we go.

Anyone have any Halloween plans? I would love to take Alex out but he is so young, I am not sure it would be worth us going by ourselves since it would look like and obvious attempt to just get candy for myself. If anyone is trick-or treating, let me know. I would love to join you for a bit.

BOO!

Just for fun

The Patio and The Pond

To follow up on last week's post:

I DID go to the doc. I let her know of my symptoms and she gave me two very comforting pieces of news. 1) I want to stress that what you are telling my is NOT normal and 2) I'd like you to go to a cardiologist and have your heart looked at. So I left that visit all warm and bubbly. I have not made the appointment for that but I will this week.

On the way home, Allen called me to let me know I needed to pick up The Monster, because he had ALSO been to the doc and received some bad news. Allen has been having some pain in the ball of his right foot. This was going on two months so he finally went to see the doc. It's not certain yet, but the doc thinks Allen stepped on something and his body rejected it. By rejecting it, he meant, his body basically encapsulated it inside Allen's foot. Eww. ;( So Allen left the doctor's office with an M&M sized chunk missing from the ball of the bottom of his foot. It has been a week and he is still in pain!

I will continue to update on my condition. I am actually curious to go to a heart doctor. A stress test could prove interesting.

On Friday night, we grabbed Joe and Teresa and went to the patio on Ozono (on Greenville). We had Alex with us and the weather was so nice, we stayed quite a while and enjoyed ourselves. Joe was very hurt to find we had a blog and he wasn't on it so, I promised that I would put a pictures of Joe and the boy up. BUT since I took the picture with my iPhone, and Apple makes sure that most processes outside of iTunes are very difficult, I can't seem to post those pictures. (sorry Joe). But they were VERY cute I promise.

On Sat., Allen and I got up and spent some time during the day with Alex. I feel like I barely get to see him during the week. So we played on Sat. and napped and played....... It was my Dad's rugby alumni weekend and I always make it to see some part of the game and festivities, but the day just kept moving on and in the end, I went to see him for about 15 minutes. I would have liked to stay longer but we already had other plans!

We dropped Alex off at Nan's and went to meet Brady and Katy on the patio at Ozona (AGAIN!) It's a great patio and the weather has been so nice at night. I certainly didn't mind.We went to Sherlocks for a bit after that and headed home at midnight.

This morning, since Nana had Alex, we took advantage and got up a bit early to get a few things done before we go to Vegas next weekend. The Koi pond needed some work so Allen went outside to work on that. The filter was leaking and well, the plants are in sad shape. Allen fixed the filter so that it works like a geyser! Or less dramatically - so that it works properly.

The Geyser!

The new filter (and the installer!)

We put a beta out in the pond. He, surprisingly, holds his own with the Koi and is certainly not scared of us!

The big boys

We call the yellow and black one Skeletor. He is the most outgoing. The fish will come up and let you "pet" them (like in this pic) but Skeletor is certainly the dominant one out of the group. He is also the biggest, and the youngest.

Beer, Baklawa, and Blood Work - The Weekend Update

This weekend was busy with bachelorette parties and birthday celebrations.

On Sat. night, we went to Chris and Stacy's bachelor/bachelorette party. I have never been to a joint one before, but this one was super fun. Chris and Stacy went all out and rented a party bus to chauffeur us all around for the evening. I personally could have hung out with everyone in the darn bus all night. I loved it! Chris and Stacy are getting married in Mexico this month and we wish them the best! (Even though I a sure they don't need it. They are a match made in Heaven!) For obvious reasons (ahem ahem) I will not be including too many photos from the party! But I can share a few!

Amanda and I in the bus. Jason and Amanda, goofing off!

Annnnnnnnd, as I just now spotted the very subtle middle finger in the background of Amanda and I's photo, I am going to halt any more sharing about Sat. night right now! Leave it to Allen to ruin every photo ever taken by always succumbing to the apparently irresistible urge to stick his middle finger in it. Allen, don't act as if it could be anyone on the bus who did that. That ring (and that finger for that matter) looks awfully familiar.

On Sunday, we went my with my parents to a Lebanese food festival in Lewisville. It was hosted by a small church. The weather was perfect, so we sat outside and enjoyed our kabobs and tabouli. And afterwards we had some balawa and other things I can't spell, much less pronounce. When we were done, I could not wait to get home and nap off the night before. The Monster was over at Nana's house and although I missed him, it was a much appreciated break. I needed that nap. (How did I get so old!?!?)

On Sunday night, it was time to get together to celebrate Bobbie's birthday! We went to The Flying Fish over off of Northwest Highway for some casual seafood. Since the weather was nice we sat on the patio. Stacy, Scott, and Allen shared oysters on the half shell. Ick. And then we all had some form of battered and deep fried goodness.

Pleh.

The Monster. He is so big. He is almost 6 months old but I am having to buy 12 month old clothes for him.

Bobbie so rarely lets anyone take her picture, I thought I would document my accomplishment here. (Sorry Ma)

So in the past few weeks, I have been dealing with some strange issues. I have been getting headaches, fatigue, and more often than not, when I stand up from sitting or lying down, I have to pause for a moment so make the dizziness go away and my vision come back. (This poses a particular problem when my boss asks me to come into his office and I get out of my chair and just stand there. I couldn't see anything and when my vision returned, he was standing there giving me the strangest look......) Allen and I have made the medical observation (Board Certified thank you very much) that I seem to be anemic. I have my annual doctors check up tomorrow, and I am going to ask him to do some blood work on me. Now, most of you who know me are probably quite shocked that I would make such a request since it's fairly obvious I would rather go fishing with Scott Peterson that volunteer to get stuck by any type of needle for any reason, but that is how bad it is getting. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. I have a strong feeling that I am either anemic, or do not have enough iron in my system. (Or is that the same thing?) I'll keep you posted.

XOXO
